Aylmer Old Rail Trail (across from Rapido)

🦋 Butterflyway Completed 2025 Near 43 rue Front, Gatineau, QC J9H 4X4

Partners

Located along the old railway trail in Aylmer across from the Rapido convenience store, this stop transforms underused public land along a former rail corridor into pollinator habitat. Built in collaboration with Mères au front and with support from Amis de la Marina d’Aylmer, it demonstrates the potential for habitat creation on marginal urban infrastructure.

The linear trail setting creates a natural corridor link between other Butterflyway stops, and its high foot traffic visibility exposes residents and cyclists to the concept of native pollinator habitat in everyday public spaces.

This new pollinator habitat was created with donated plants from Localeaf Nursery, as well as seed donations from Canadian Wildlife Federation. Tower Tree Services also donated a large amount of fresh woodchips, enough for the site and local residents.
