École Montessori de l’Outaouais

The Montessori campus transformation, led by Canopée board member Suzanne, is the most ambitious project on the Butterflyway. The schoolyard at 161 rue Principale features 8 distinct ecological zones including a prairie meadow, woodland shade garden, tiny forest, sensory garden, and rain garden, alongside an exploratory adventure playground, natural play structures, living willow features, and the prepped site for an outdoor theatre. Built on challenging compacted soil and dead tree roots that were repurposed as the foundation for a new ecosystem, this site is now entering its second phase of revitalization and land healing.

This project is also the starting point of how Canopée Localeaf came to be, and forms the backdrop for everything our non-profit has been formed around. One day, you will read about it in a blog post, we are sure.
